Nilofar Bakhtiar

Nilofar Bakhtiar was the federal tourism minister in Shaukat Aziz’s cabinet. In April 2007, the clerics issued a fatwa against her after some newspapers printed photographs of her hugging a male colleague after a parachute jump in France.The muftis of Lal Masjid decreed that Ms. Bakhtiar had committed an “un-Islamic act” for which she must be removed from the federal cabinet. On May 21, 2007, Nilofar announced her resignation.

Razia Bhatti, a brave journalist has been described as a crusader, a torch-bearer, and a symbol of courage. Despite constant harassments and threats to her safety, she wrote bravely on issues ranging from women's rights to political corruption. In 1996, she died of brain hemorrhage.
